Body drifted in the lake for days: Dead 14-year-old is said to be a victim of sex crimes

A girl's body is found in a lake in Hesse. It is about a missing student from southern Baden. Investigators are keeping a low profile, but multiple media outlets unanimously report gruesome details of a possible sex crime.

A girl from near Freiburg who has been missing for over a week is dead. That is a sad certainty. What happened? The investigators initially kept a low profile. This Monday at 2 p.m., the police and public prosecutor's office in Freiburg want to give answers. According to the "Bild" newspaper, it is said to be a sex crime, and the alleged perpetrator is said to have already been arrested.

As the newspaper further reports, the suspect is said to have become the focus of the investigation after the girl's disappearance. The man from Kassel finally led the officials to the lake and the body. The victim's clothing was also found in the suspect's apartment. As the "Schwarzwälder Bote" reports, the man is said to be a previously convicted sex criminal who contacted the girl via an Internet chat.

The investigators have not yet been able to clarify the exact cause of death, according to the reports. The body floated in the lake for days, making an autopsy difficult. The 14-year-old from Gottenheim in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district had been missing since July 21. Her body was found on Friday almost 300 kilometers from her hometown in Teufelsee in the Hessian Wetteraukreis.

In the home of the student and at the distant place of discovery in Hesse, sadness and horror prevail. "The worst that can happen in such a case has happened. The whole of Gottenheim is in shock," said Mayor Christian Riesterer. The girl was found dead in a small lake in a nature reserve in the Wetterau north of Frankfurt am Main. According to dpa information, it is the Teufelsee, a popular destination. A forensic medical examination had shown that the body found in the lake belonged to the student from Gottenheim.
