Use of household appliances: How much does a blow-dry cost now?

Energy is expensive. But it is difficult to do without the use of some devices that make everyday life easier, such as refrigerators or hair dryers. Not to mention the television. A study shows how expensive the use has become.

Somehow life has lost its naturalness. At least when it comes to the part of existence that comes through the socket or the radiator. Let's stick to the stream. It is expensive and its consumption should be limited voluntarily, which is not easy for most people.

Because the use of ordinary things is part of everyday routine and doing without them is almost impossible. Four examples: hair dryer, dishwasher, refrigerator and television. The comparison portal Verivox once calculated how much the use of each individual device has become more expensive within a year. According to Verivox, the average electricity price for private consumers in Germany with an annual consumption of 4000 kilowatt hours in a model household was 45.81 cents per kilowatt hour at the end of August. This corresponds to an increase of more than 50 percent compared to the same month last year.

dishwasher

Let's start with washing dishes. In many households, this is done by a dishwasher. Unfortunately, the electricity consumption for washing dishes once in August 2022 increased by 15 cents compared to the same month last year. If you turn on the device every two days, you don't run the risk of getting your hands dirty, but you have to pay 2.25 euros more in electricity costs per month. The total costs add up to around 6.75 euros per month.

refrigerator

Nobody wants to do without a fridge. However, the use costs 6 cents more per day compared to August 2021. That makes 1.80 euros extra per month and a total of 5.40 euros per month.

TV

And it doesn't get any better, because life without television is simply unthinkable for many. On average, it is in operation for 3 hours a day in German households, which has to be paid for with 4.5 cents more per day or 1.35 euros per month. A total of 4.05 euros per month are due for the flickering.

hairdryer

You can almost be glad that you are no longer subject to the hairstyle fashion of the 1980s. Because here a blow-dried hairstyle was mandatory for both sexes. A blow-dry for 10 minutes will cost 5 cents more in August 2022 than it did a year ago. Which corresponds to 75 cents per month with daily use or all in all costs 2.25 euros per month (0.075 euros per day).

Overall, the use of these four devices has increased by a total of 6.15 euros per month compared to the previous year. And to make matters worse, there are also a few more devices in the household that regularly want to be plugged into the socket.

According to the Federal Ministry of Economics, this is where the most electricity is consumed at home:
