After Feldmann's deselection: coalition wants mayoral election in Frankfurt on March 5th

After the deselection is before the new election. After Feldmann's dismissal as Frankfurt's Lord Mayor, the post has to be filled again. Now there is a first proposal for a date for the election.

The Frankfurt government coalition and the CDU propose March 5 as the date for the upcoming mayoral elections in Frankfurt am Main. This was announced by Green Party leader Dimitrios Bakakis. The joint proposal by the coalition of the Greens, SPD, FDP and Volt as well as the opposition CDU should be submitted soon.

The vote on the date in the city council is therefore planned for the next plenary session on November 17th. Any runoff election could take place on March 26th. Incumbent Peter Feldmann from the SPD was voted out of office yesterday, Sunday, in a citizens' initiative with a clear vote.

One of the triggers for repeated calls for his resignation and ultimately the deselection process was Feldmann's indictment on suspicion of corruption. In addition, there have been several public missteps and embarrassing slips in recent months.

Feldmann admitted his defeat during the count and declared that he would no longer be mayor from Friday. On that day, the municipal election committee determines the official final result. From then on, Feldmann's deputy, the Green politician Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg, will be in charge of official business.

As of Friday, a period of four months begins within which the new election must take place. So no later than March 12, according to the responsible office for statistics and elections.
