Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Again trouble for "Dr. Po": The mother of a patient who died after an operation by the Düsseldorf cosmetic surgeon has sued the doctor. He had promised the victims 20,000 euros in compensation for pain and suffering as well as reimbursement of the surgical costs. To date, however, the doctor has not paid anything, according to the plaintiff in the civil case that was heard at the district court on Monday.
She demands almost 30,000 euros. The doctor argued that he wanted to wait and see whether the sentence imposed on him became final. The Federal Court of Justice (BGH) still has to decide on the appeal. According to a court spokeswoman, the civil judge made it clear on Monday that, based on her current assessment, she sees no connection between the obligation to pay and the decision of the Federal Court of Justice.
The decision in the civil case is scheduled to be announced on November 28th. A year ago, the doctor was sentenced to three years and four months in prison and a four-year professional ban for bodily harm resulting in death. Two women had died after buttock augmentations he had performed.
The defense attorneys for the doctor, dubbed "Dr. Po" by the tabloids, had asked for an acquittal and filed an appeal.
