Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: The state government wants to supplement federal aid

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania apparently wants to increase state aid for citizens, institutions and companies that are in need as a result of high energy prices. The federal aid that has now been decided should be supplemented with the funds, said SPD parliamentary group leader Julian Barlen on Monday in Schwerin and announced a supplementary budget for December. He did not name a sum. However, the additional funds provided would be significantly higher than the 30 million euros previously planned for the state's so-called hardship fund. "We are in the process of determining the costs," said Barlen.

The opposition CDU faction had already asked for a state aid program worth 200 million euros at the weekend. In an application for the state parliament session on Wednesday, the AfD put the need at at least 150 million euros. On the initiative of the SPD, an intergroup emergency motion to deal with the energy crisis is also to be presented at the meeting on Wednesday. While the FDP and the Greens have already signaled that they will support the coalition's proposal, the CDU made their rejection clear. The draft shows that Red-Red is primarily concerned with appreciating their own achievements in containing the energy crisis. "We don't need any more celebrations in the direction of the state government," said CDU faction leader Robert Liskow.
