Boris Johnson appointed several new ministers in his cabinet to replace the resignations of those who resigned this week, prompting him to announce that he will resign as prime minister.

After Mr Johnson's successor has been appointed, a fuller reshuffle will likely. However, in the interim, Nadhim Zahawi was promoted to chancellor after Rishi Sunak resigned, and Stephen Barclay took over as health secretary from Sajid Javid.

Greg Clark and James Cleverly also returned to the cabinet. They replaced Mr Zahawi in the role of education secretary, and the sacked Michael Gove, as levelling up and housing secretary, respectively.
