Response to the Ukraine war: Polish Post has employees trained on weapons

In order to strengthen its defense against Russia, Poland resorts to extraordinary means. In the coming months, Swiss Post employees are to take voluntary courses to learn "basic shooting skills". Graduates are welcome to join the homeland security associations.

Against the background of the Ukraine war, the employees of the post office in Poland are to be trained by soldiers. A corresponding agreement with the Homeland Security (WOT) of the Polish army will be signed in August, a spokesman for the Post said. A decree from the post office board states that employees should learn the safety rules for handling weapons and acquire "basic shooting skills" in the course.

The training serves to improve Poland's defense readiness, the spokesman for Homeland Security told the newspaper "Dziennik Gazeta Polska". Poland Post has around 70,000 employees. A thousand places are planned for the first shooting training session, with more offerings to follow. Participation is voluntary. Those who have completed the training have a good chance of being accepted into the homeland security associations.

Poland has long been planning to increase the number of its armed forces. For example, voluntary basic military service was recently introduced. The Polish army currently has 110,000 soldiers, plus 30,000 men and women in homeland security. A personnel increase to 250,000 professional soldiers and 50,000 members of homeland security is planned.
