Two injured in the surrounding area: Russia attacks Kyiv with drones

The Kremlin continues its attacks on Ukraine using drones. Numerous drones are apparently intercepted in Kyiv, but some hit critical infrastructure, according to Mayor Klitschko. At the turn of the year, the Ukrainian leadership expects further massive attacks.

According to the authorities, the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv and its environs were attacked by Russia during the night with Iranian-made combat drones. Critical infrastructure objects were again damaged, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram. Power engineers tried to stabilize the supply of electricity and heating. In some parts of the city, the electricity was switched off as an emergency.

According to reports from residents, the typical flight noise of the drones and the fire from the anti-aircraft defenses could be heard over the city at night. No one in Kyiv was injured, Klitschko wrote. The Ukrainian authorities reported two injured people from the surrounding area. Infrastructure objects and private houses were damaged.

According to military information, Kyiv alone was attacked by more than 20 Iranian-made combat drones. The air defense shot down about 15 of them. Another ten drones were intercepted in southern Ukraine. According to Ukrainian intelligence, the Russian army recently received a new delivery of Iranian-made drones.

The Ukrainian military leadership fears further Russian rocket attacks at the turn of the year. Army spokesman Yuri Ignat said it could not be ruled out that the enemy would "congratulate" in this way at the end of the year. "They have a clear plan in which they have set priority goals." The aim is to inflict as much damage as possible on Ukraine. "And depending on where it hurts us the most, that's where they'll aim, as mean, as bold and as painful as possible," Ignat was quoted as saying by the Unian state agency.
