Hamburger SV has made it to the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the top game of the ninth day of play, the Hanseatic League deservedly won 2-0 (1-0) against Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday evening and took over the top of the table for at least one night. In front of 49,616 spectators in the Volksparkstadion, Robert Glatzel (21st) and Bakéry Jatta (90th) scored for the North Germans, who celebrated their fourth win in a row. After the third defeat of the season, Fortuna initially lost contact with the promotion zone.
After his strong performance, Jatta avoided the question of whether the HSV promotion would work this time. "Anything is possible, but we look from game to game," said the Gambian attacker at Sport1, who was pleased with how the goals fell: "We always practice that very often." Former HSV and current Fortuna coach Daniel Thioune admitted afterwards that "the win for HSV is absolutely fine. We didn't have the energy, the power and were too harmless in attack."
HSV stormed from the start. Access Laszlo Bénes, who was preferred to playmaker Sonny Kittel this time, hit the crossbar twice in the beginning (2nd/7th). The guests, who had to replace defender Matthias Zimmermann early on with Nicolas Gavory (8th) after a collision with Robert Glatzel, could hardly free themselves from the pressure from the hosts. They deservedly took the lead when Glatzel scored his sixth goal of the season after Jatta's great preparatory work.
As a result, the guests were able to stage themselves better because the hosts withdrew a little further. The strong winger Jatta repeatedly caused danger on the right side. And he (44') and Mario Vuskovic (45' 1) almost headed in to make it 2-0 before the break, but both times the outstanding keeper Florian Kastenmeier responded quickly. He was the best man on his team.
After the change, Thioune brought two fresh offensive players into the game in Emmanuel Iyoha and Shinta Appelkamp, who also provided more momentum. On the other side, Moritz Heyer failed at Kastenmeier (53rd). Dawid Kownacki's offside goal (58th) was a warning shot by the significantly improved guests. Kittel, who came on late, hit the inside post for HSV (88') before Jatta made everything clear with a header from Kittel's template.
