Slalom success in Adelboden: Straßer: Greetings to Rosi Mittermaier on the podium

Linus Straßer is still suffering from the consequences of an infection. But he doesn't let that stop him at his favorite World Cup in Adelboden. At the finish, the ski racer commemorates the deceased Rosi Mittermaier.

Ski racer Linus Straßer has again reached the podium in his favorite slalom in Adelboden and confirmed his good form a month before the World Championships in France. The 30-year-old, who traveled to the Chuenisbärgli after suffering from flu, finished third, 0.92 seconds behind the Norwegian winner Lucas Braathen. Second was Braathen's compatriot Atle Lie Mcgrath (0.71).

"It's the best race on the World Cup calendar," enthused Straßer, who has already been on the podium in Adelboden twice in his career. "Anyone who wants to see a great World Cup must have been here." And he was also satisfied with his race: "I like the way I'm skiing right now. It's extremely stable, very solid, totally uncomplicated and yet always fast," said Straßer, who was already skiing for the third time in his career stood on the podium in Adelboden. "It's a basis that's really nice to work with. It certainly wasn't the last straw. If that's enough for the podium, all the better."

For the athlete from TSV 1860 Munich it was the seventh slalom podium in his career, the second this winter. After the death of alpine icon Rosi Mittermaier, Straßer started with a black ribbon. "Rosi laid the foundation for where we are today. We can't even imagine the ski boom that she triggered back then. She was just a really great woman," said Straßer on ZDF. Felix Neureuther's mother, who has been called "Gold-Rosi" since her two victories at the 1976 Olympic Games, died on Wednesday after a serious illness at the age of 72.

Anton Tremmel completed the good German result in Adelboden and achieved his best World Cup result in an individual race with 13th place. "I did well twice on the steep slope. Today I tried to ride in an uncomplicated manner," said Tremmel, commenting on the best rides of his career. Sebastian Holzmann, David Ketterer, Adrian Meisen and Fabian Himmelsbach clearly missed the final round of the top 30.
