The night before the Conference League final in Tirana, there were riots between the police and AS Roma and Feyenoord Rotterdam fan groups. As the AP news agency reported, at least ten police officers and two other people were injured.
The riots came about because the followers each tried to storm into the area of the other group. 48 Italian and 12 Dutch football fans were taken into custody. The supporters met in at least three places in the Albanian capital on Tuesday. According to the police, a bus was also damaged.
Tirana expected 100,000 fans from both countries for the game in the evening (9 p.m./on NITRO, RTL and in the ntv.de live ticker) - but both clubs are only entitled to 4,000 tickets each, the Air Albania Stadium only holds 21,000 people.
In Albania it is about the first title in the European Conference League. The Italians, coached by José Mourinho, are the favorites going into the final, and the ambitious capital city club recently finished the season in Serie A in sixth place. A win in the Exhibition Cup - the predecessor of the UEFA Cup - in 1961 is the only international success so far. After that, Roma were in the finals of the 1983 national championship and 1991 in the UEFA Cup, but lost both duels. The club became Italian champions three times.
Feyenoord Rotterdam celebrated its greatest success to date in 1970 by winning the European Cup. The club also won the UEFA Cup in 1974 and 2002. This competition has since been replaced by the Europa League.
