Hesse: Awo scandal: warehouse clerk denies bogus activity

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - The scandal surrounding workers' welfare (Awo) is spreading. On Tuesday, a warehouse clerk from the Gießen area stood before the Frankfurt district court. He is said to have been employed by Awo until October 2019 and to have received 22 monthly salaries of 450 euros each. According to the indictment, he is said not to have provided anything in return. The 70-year-old denied the prosecutor's allegation at the beginning of the trial.

In the meantime, he had been sentenced to a fine of 6,400 euros (80 daily rates) by the district court. However, he appealed against this verdict, so that a main hearing became necessary. The court now wants to question a police officer on the witness stand who was entrusted with the investigation. The negotiation was therefore interrupted - the process should start again in a few weeks.
