North Rhine-Westphalia: Births in NRW increased by 3.1 percent

Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) - The number of births in North Rhine-Westphalia last year rose by 3.1 percent compared to 2020 and to the highest level since 1999. The number of deaths increased by 2.7 percent, as the State Statistical Office announced on Friday. For every 175,400 newborns there were 220,000 deaths.

The highest percentage increase in births, at 7.6 percent, was in the districts of Euskirchen and Warendorf, while the highest decrease was recorded in Remscheid (by 2.5 percent).

The statisticians determined the highest increase in deaths for the Oberberg district (8.9 percent), the highest decrease for the city of Hagen (by 4.4 percent).
