Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Rügen Bridge closed during the day from Monday to Friday

Stralsund (dpa / mv) - From Monday onwards, drivers will not be able to drive over the Rügen Bridge for two weeks during the day, except on weekends. According to the State Office for Road Construction and Traffic, it will be closed for renewal of the traffic control system. Electrical displays above the road are to be replaced. In the week of June 13th and June 20th, drivers have to switch to the Rügendamm from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The ads are as old as the bridge and must be replaced before failures occur, said a spokesman for the state office. At the same time, maintenance measures would be carried out, for example on the bridge's drainage system. In the fall, it will probably be blocked again to exchange more ads. The bridge had already been closed to the exchange of advertisements last year. The work is expected to be completed in 2023.

Parallel to the upcoming work, the federal highway 96 between the Rügen bridge and Bergen is to be repaired. For this purpose, parallel to the closure of the Rügen Bridge, the B96 will first be blocked to Samtens - and then from Samtens to the Bergen roundabout. Traffic is routed via the L296. Like the bridge, the federal highway should be free in the mornings and evenings and on weekends.

According to the state office, wind and moisture would hinder work on the bridge. Therefore, they would now take place between the holiday seasons.
