Saxony-Anhalt: After a raid against people smugglers: LKA takes stock

Magdeburg/Bitterfeld-Wolfen (dpa/sa) - After a raid against alleged smugglers with around 370 emergency services in Bitterfeld-Wolfen, the suspicion against several suspects has been confirmed. A spokesman for the Saxony-Anhalt State Criminal Police Office said on Friday that they had supported so-called third-country nationals in their illegal stay in Germany for a long period of time. They mediated, among other things, fake EU ID cards, residence and work in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld area and accompanied the authorities.

During the searches of several objects, 220 identities were found. 162 people were searched accordingly. In addition, numerous counterfeit ID cards, driver's licenses, ID cards, cash and business documents were seized. Investigations were initiated against the accused.

According to the LKA, a 58-year-old Latvian suspect from southern Anhalt and three other people from Latvia, Georgia and Ukraine who are known by name are being investigated under the leadership of the Dessau-Roßlau public prosecutor's office. The officials arrived on Thursday morning with numerous emergency vehicles in Bitterfeld-Wolfen (Anhalt-Bitterfeld district) on a street at a hotel. The State Criminal Police Office spoke of one of the largest operations in recent months.
