North Rhine-Westphalia: Explosion at Linken office: attack with homemade explosive device

Oberhausen (dpa / lnw) - According to the police, the explosion at the party office of the left in Oberhausen on Tuesday was obviously a targeted attack. The unknown perpetrators used a self-made explosive device, a so-called "unconventional explosive and incendiary device" (USBV), and placed it in the entrance of the party office, the police said on Thursday. That was determined by the State Criminal Police Office. "Due to the placement, it can be assumed that the attack was aimed at the party office."

Eyewitnesses to the crime on Tuesday at 3.20 a.m. have not yet reported, said a spokeswoman. Therefore, the assumption of a political motive has so far been neither confirmed nor refuted. Police and prosecutors continued to investigate in all directions. Representatives of the left had suspected an attack by right-wing circles. The explosion on Tuesday night destroyed, among other things, the panes of the party office and neighboring shops.
