Burg (dpa/sa) - In the district of Jerichower Land, three forest and meadow fires occupied the fire brigade on Wednesday. First, a forest area of about a thousand square meters near Scharteucke caught fire, followed shortly afterwards by another forest area in the immediate vicinity. It was initially unclear why the fire broke out, the police said in Burg on Thursday. Both fires were quickly extinguished, it said. The total amount of damage is 4000 euros.
Matches were the cause of another meadow fire, in Burg. According to the police, almost 900 square meters of area had to be extinguished by the fire brigade. Two girls had stated that a burning match fell down and the meadow immediately caught fire. The girls tried unsuccessfully to put out the fire. They then dialed 911, police said.
