Weißenfels (dpa/sa) - The Seniors' and Disabled Advisory Board, care facilities, aid organizations and clubs are organizing the 22nd Seniors' Week in Weißenfels. After the opening on Saturday with a sports festival for seniors and people with disabilities in the city stadium, a total of 17 events are on the program until June 17th. According to the organizers, the aim of the week of action is to address issues for people over 60 years of age. The offer includes concerts, cozy coffee afternoons and lectures, for example on the topic "Are grandpa and grandma still allowed to drive?"
Visiting senior-friendly model apartments and information events in nursing homes are also part of the senior citizens' week, on the occasion of which the famous Ladegast organ in the Weißenfels Marienkirche is supposed to sound. In the age simulator you can try out what it's like to have restricted vision, hearing and movement. According to the information, a highlight is an open folk song singing on June 15 in the Heinrich-Schütz-Haus.
The Weißenfelser Seniorenwoche has its origins 25 years ago on the market square, where a few stands would have offered products for old age. In the meantime, says the chairman of the Weißenfels senior advisory board, Herbert Dathe, "there are worlds between this format and today's festival." With 17 events under the motto "Social Life" this year, there would be more than ever before.
