Baden-Württemberg: 100 people arrived in new emergency accommodation in Baden

Offenburg (dpa/lsw) - Around 100 people have already arrived in the newly established emergency accommodation for asylum seekers in Offenburg (Ortenaukreis). They should stay in the exhibition hall for one to two weeks, said Maximilian Stahnke from the Freiburg regional council on Monday. There are many families with children.

The accommodation is intended for people who are not from Ukraine. Up to 400 refugees could be accommodated in the hall. Bunk beds for four people each have been set up in provisionally separated areas.

According to the regional council, the state initial reception center in Freiburg is "at the breaking point". There are around 1050 residents there.

The refugees come from Afghanistan, the Near and Middle East, North Africa and the Balkans, as Stahnke reported. Three men aged 25 to 33 from Algeria said they had come to Italy and Spain by sea.

In the spring, the regional council had already operated an arrival center for refugees from Ukraine on the exhibition grounds for a few weeks as part of the initial reception.
