Baden-Württemberg: Additional trains for leisure traffic in the southwest

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The Ministry of Transport has ordered additional trains for leisure traffic in Upper Swabia and around Lake Constance. Especially on the Gäubahn (Stuttgart-Zurich) and the Südbahn (Ulm-Friedrichshafen), a relief effect is also expected for the rush, while the 9-euro ticket is valid, as department head Winfried Hermann (Greens) announced on Friday in Stuttgart. The rail transport company (SVG) was awarded the contract for the special transport services. The order value was not disclosed.

Additional trains to the "Southside Festival" in the district of Tuttlingen should already be running on the Corpus Christi weekend. According to the announcement, the special transport services are intended to ensure a nationwide transport offer that can be called up independently of certain networks and routes, with which special transport needs, especially in leisure travel, can also be reacted to at short notice.

In the current year, the country can still access up to 33,000 train kilometers, and in the following full contract years up to 66,000 train kilometers per year. Hermann said: "This allows visitors to football games, music festivals or folk festivals to travel safely and in an environmentally friendly manner with additionally ordered trains."
