Baden-Württemberg: Again sales growth for garden tool manufacturer Gardena

Ulm (dpa/lsw) - The gardening tool manufacturer Gardena also recorded an increase in sales in the first six months of this year. The proceeds rose to 930 million euros after 726 million euros in the same period last year, as the company announced on Wednesday in Ulm. During the Corona pandemic last year, the company benefited from the desire for gardens and land and at the end of the year exceeded the sales mark of one billion euros for the first time. In the entire 2020 financial year, the company had generated sales of 934 million euros. Gardena did not give any figures for the operating result in its statement.

Gardena attributed the sales growth to its international expansion, such as the purchase of US irrigation equipment manufacturer Orbit Irrigation. However, increased prices for raw materials, components, transport and energy also put Gardena under pressure. According to its own statements, the company recently struggled with supply bottlenecks for components for robotic lawnmowers.

"We managed to maintain the strong level of sales achieved during the pandemic, although the first half of the year started with a cool spring and the general economic situation has deteriorated," explained Gardena manager Pär Åström. Gardena belongs to the Swedish Husqvarna Group and has its four German locations in Baden-Württemberg.

In Germany, 2560 people currently work for the company. That was around 280 more than the company counted at the end of the year.
