Baden-Württemberg: Always follow the arrow: Digital guidance system for pedestrians

In the future, digital display boards will show the way through the city center in Stuttgart. The moving arrows can rotate 360 degrees and provide access to the Internet. However, there is only one prototype, two more are planned.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - No more lost in the Stuttgart basin? With a digital guidance system, moveable arrows and LED displays, pedestrians in Stuttgart should be able to take the right direction in the future. According to the Stuttgart-Marketing GmbH, the concept is a pilot project. In addition to a prototype in the city center, two more steles are to be erected in the city center. The GPS-controlled steles alternately display the current major events in German and English and point in the direction of the respective event location. In addition, the distance is given as well as a tip for local transport.

QR codes should also give the opportunity to buy an online ticket and be guided directly to the event location. There you will also find information on restaurants and city districts in the vicinity. In addition, the steles are intended to serve as a hotspot and thus expand the city's free public WiFi network.

"The digital pedestrian guidance system is a pilot project that combines the classic approaches of conventional signposts with the latest technology and dynamic content," said the city's tourism experts on Friday at the inauguration of the first stele.
