North Rhine-Westphalia: FDP-NRW congratulates Gerhart Baum: "Incorruptible Democrat"

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The North Rhine-Westphalian FDP honored the former Interior Minister Gerhart Baum on his 90th birthday as a fighter for democracy and human rights. "I bow to his impressive life's work," said FDP state chairman Joachim Stamp on Friday. "Especially in this time of crisis, he is a role model as an incorruptible democrat and defender of the rule of law." Baum's tireless commitment to human rights, self-determination and the ecological market economy are still urgently needed.

Born in Dresden, Baum had turned 90 on Friday. To this day he is one of the leading liberal voices in Germany. The human rights lawyer still has a law firm in Düsseldorf and works there every day. Most recently, a few weeks ago, he brought about an agreement between the Israeli families of victims of the 1972 Olympic attack and the German government.
