Baden-Württemberg: "Everything is green here": Lift operators hope for snow

Freiburg/Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - Winter sports enthusiasts have to leave their skiing and tobogganing equipment in the basement for the time being. In the Black Forest and on the Swabian Alb there is no snow at the beginning of the year. "Everything is green with us at the moment," said Jochen Gekeler from the winter sports arena in Lichtenstein (Reutlingen district) on Thursday on request.

Before Christmas there were three days of skiing in the area. Experience has shown that the greatest chance of snow is between mid-January and mid-February, said Gekeler.

Lifts are also standing still in the Black Forest. Around the Feldberg, the weather conditions and the lack of snow are difficult for lift operators and hosts, summarized Herbert Kreuz from Hochschwarzwald Tourismus GmbH.

"But we don't have a wave of cancellations," said Kreuz, looking at the entire region. The bottom line is that the situation for the tourism industry is still quite positive - despite individual cancellations by visitors. In view of the sometimes spring-like temperatures, guests went hiking or went on a bike tour.
