Baden-Württemberg: federal states criticize the federal government for refugee policy

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Clear criticism of the refugee policy of the federal government is being voiced from Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. The federal states should also be invited to the federal refugee summit on October 11 with the municipal umbrella organizations, said Justice Minister Marion Gentges (CDU) on Wednesday after a meeting with the Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) on the subject. "In the current refugee situation, the debate cannot be conducted over the heads of the countries," said Gentges. To only talk about the distribution is also far too short. The recording systems are increasingly coming to the edge of resilience.

Herrmann criticized the fact that the federal government was sending out completely the wrong signals if it continued to start additional admission programs or set further misguided incentives, such as with the reform of citizen income. "In the end, this leads to the municipalities being overburdened and our social systems being overwhelmed." The federal government must also live up to its funding responsibility in the area of asylum.

According to the so-called Königstein key, Baden-Württemberg has to take in around 13 percent of the refugees coming to Germany from the Ukraine. According to the ministries, Bavaria accounts for around 15 percent.

So far this year, Baden-Württemberg has taken in around 130,000 Ukrainian refugees and around 15,400 asylum seekers from other countries. More than 148,000 war refugees from Ukraine and almost 22,000 asylum seekers from other countries were accommodated in Bavaria.
