Freiburg (dpa / lsw) - The defenders Christian Günter and Matthias Ginter from Bundesliga club SC Freiburg are in the squad of the German national soccer team for the World Cup in Qatar from November 20th to December 18th. This was announced by national coach Hansi Flick on Thursday when his 26-strong squad was nominated for the winter event.
The defensive duo has played all 22 competitive games for the club this season. Ginter has made 46 appearances for the German national team so far. The tournament in Qatar will be his third World Cup. However, the central defender was not used when winning the title in Brazil in 2014 and in the preliminary round in Russia in 2018. Left-back Günter has played six senior internationals so far. He was in the German squad at the European Championships last year, but was not used either.
