Baden-Württemberg: Huber: CDU remains "Baden-Württemberg party"

Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - The Southwest Greens want to broaden their electoral base in rural areas and permanently replace the CDU as the "Baden-Württemberg party" - but this does not meet with much enthusiasm from the coalition partner. "The CDU is and will remain the Baden-Württemberg party," said CDU General Secretary Isabell Huber on Monday when asked by the German Press Agency. "On the other hand, if you don't discover rural areas for yourself until 2022, you still have a very long way to go to become a party for the whole of Baden-Württemberg. The green transport policy alone speaks volumes."

The CDU is rooted in the country like no other party, said Huber. "The CDU has always campaigned for equal living conditions throughout Baden-Württemberg: in the city and in the country - to ensure that our strong rural areas stay connected."

The Greens want to dedicate themselves more to the area - also to set the course for the time after Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens). At the weekend in Donaueschingen, the state party conference decided with a large majority on a key proposal from the state executive to strengthen rural areas.
