Baden-Württemberg: Konstanzer Seenachtfest with fireworks even after the Corona break

Konstanz (dpa / lsw) - Fireworks should mark the highlight of the Konstanz Seenachtfest even after the two-time Corona compulsory break. The pyrotechnics should be fired at the event on August 13 to match the music from three gravel ships on Lake Constance, the organizers announced on Wednesday. In addition, a joint finale with fireworks is planned on the Swiss border. It is one of the largest sea fireworks in Europe.

Before the first Corona cancellation in 2020, a majority of those surveyed in an online city survey were in favor of continuing to plan fireworks as the highlight of the festival in Konstanz - despite concerns about harmful effects on the environment and climate. In this regard, the organizers referred to information from the Federal Environment Agency from December 2021, according to which fine dust pollution from high-altitude fireworks at nearby measuring stations was “not or only slightly” recognizable.

The Seenachtfest begins in the afternoon and is almost four kilometers long on the shores of Lake Constance. The program includes live music, a water ski demonstration and a handicraft market. At the last Seenachtfest before the pandemic, around 40,000 visitors watched the fireworks in 2019.
