Baden-Württemberg: Kretschmann warns against bureaucratic over-regulation

Brussels/Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) has warned against bureaucratic over-regulation in the EU. Instead, you have to create innovation-friendly framework conditions and an "enabling culture", said Kretschmann on Wednesday in Brussels. "If we want to hold our own in global competition, we have to step it up a notch." Kretschmann met with representatives of the automotive industry and EU Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton for a "strategy dialogue".

According to the head of government, the cooperation of all actors - from politics, business, science and the population - is necessary. In addition, cooperation between regions where the automotive industry is in transition is important. From Kretschmann's point of view, this also includes Baden-Württemberg. "Today we are competing with regions that can offer massive state support. We are not allowed to do that in Baden-Württemberg." According to Kretschmann, instruments are needed in the EU to better accompany the upheaval.
