Baden-Württemberg: Mahle relies on battery diagnostics for e-cars

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The automotive supplier Mahle sees potential in the field of battery diagnostics for electric cars. The aftermarket division is therefore expanding its workshop equipment business, as the company announced in Stuttgart on Tuesday. Since the end of March, Mahle has enabled independent workshops to carry out battery diagnostics on e-vehicles. More features will be added by the end of the year. For example, a forecast of the expected remaining service life of a vehicle and a device for maintaining the cooling circuits of vehicle batteries.

Aftermarket is one of five business areas within the group that, in addition to the classic business with spare parts, also offers solutions for equipping workshops. In 2021, the division recorded sales of around 1.1 million euros. The Mahle Group made sales of 10.9 billion euros last year, but was in the red. The aftermarket area, on the other hand, was profitable last year, as it was in 2020, said the head of the business unit, Olaf Henning.
