Baden-Württemberg: Minister of Finance agrees to the proposal for a basic gas tariff

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - In view of the sharp rise in gas prices, Baden-Württemberg's Finance Minister Danyal Bayaz supports the proposal by "business wise men" Veronika Grimm for state-subsidized basic consumption. There is pressure to act, because for gas customers the costs could more than quadruple, wrote the Green politicians Bayaz and Grimm in a joint article for the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung". In Berlin on Saturday, the heads of the traffic light coalition discussed a significant relief for citizens because of the high prices.

Grimm had already suggested at the end of August that households up to a certain income could be given a certain amount - for example 75 percent of average consumption - on favorable terms.

According to the article, the "Germany tariff" now proposed by Grimm and Bayaz has two components. For a basic quota of around 75 percent of average consumption, households paid a price guaranteed by government subsidies in the amount of the gas price expected in the medium term, around 12 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh). The higher market price should be due for consumption in excess of this. If a household consumes less gas than its basic quota, it receives a bonus as a reward.
