North Rhine-Westphalia: 85-year-old rescued from undergrowth on Drachenfels

Königswinter (dpa / lnw) - An 85-year-old was rescued on Saturday night after an hour-long search operation from a scrub at Drachenfels near Königswinter. According to the Bonn police, the senior was dehydrated after the ordeal for more than twelve hours, but he was fine. He was taken to a hospital in Bad Honnef for examination. The "Bonner General-Anzeiger" previously reported.

The 85-year-old started a walk to Drachenfels Castle on Friday and told his daughter via cell phone that he wanted to make an appointment in the afternoon. But he didn't get there. The daughter therefore informed the police, who were looking for the man on Drachenfels with drones and a rescue dog squadron. Rescue workers from the fire brigade also took part - local transport and taxi companies in the area were also informed.

When everything remained unsuccessful, a rescue helicopter took off during the night, which finally discovered the 85-year-old in a scrub above the vineyards on Drachenfels. There the man was freed from his predicament by the fire brigade with a basket stretcher.
