Baden-Württemberg: Ministry: Great demand for monkeypox vaccine

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Significantly more people in the country want to be vaccinated against monkeypox than there is a vaccine available. According to information from the Ministry of Social Affairs, the federal government delivered around 5,200 vaccine doses against monkeypox to Baden-Württemberg on Monday. However, the demand for primary vaccinations exceeds the vaccination supply. First "swr.de" reported about it.

A large-scale supply of first and second vaccinations can only be expected in the context of further extensive deliveries. According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, the federal government announced this for the end of September.

The vaccination centers have been informed that the vaccine should only be used for initial vaccinations and within the scope of the indicated indication groups in accordance with the recommendations of the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) due to the very limited amounts of vaccine to date. The Stiko in Germany recommends vaccination against monkeypox for certain risk groups and people who have had close contact with infected people.
