Baden-Württemberg: More money for psychological counseling at the universities

The corona pandemic is affecting some students. You need psychological support. The advisory service is in high demand.

Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - The Ministry of Science is supporting the temporary expansion of psychological counseling centers at universities with a grant of one million euros. This is intended to increase capacities for psychologists, psychological or medical psychotherapists or doctors or to employ them on a temporary basis, as department head Theresia Bauer (Greens) announced in Stuttgart.

"Due to the corona virus, students were torn out of their mostly fragile social and work environment for a year and a half and had to deal with a often stressful living environment." Learning, performance and examination problems often lead to increased fears about the future. In addition, for many, the return to face-to-face studies poses unforeseeable challenges, said Bauer. This has led to a significantly increased demand for the offers of the psychological counseling centers. While the average waiting time for an initial consultation before Corona was usually a maximum of one to two weeks, it can currently be up to six weeks.
