Baden-Württemberg: More space for beavers and new fields for farmers

Uttenweiler (dpa / lsw) - The beaver in the district of Biberach should be fine. Since Saturday, a corridor up to 60 meters wide and three kilometers long has been created so that the farmers in the region around Uttenweiler do not have to fear flooding due to the activity of the largest rodents in Europe. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the farmers are given plots of land elsewhere, which are even provided with drainage.

"This flagship project is a win-win situation for species protection, flood protection and agriculture," said Minister Peter Hauk (CDU) according to the announcement about the project on the Tobelbach, which is expected to cost 1.2 million euros. "We take care of sustainable livelihoods for humans and animals".
