Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Unknown fraudsters have stolen more than 80,000 euros from several senior citizens in Stuttgart. The police announced on Wednesday. The scammers pretended to be a daughter or daughter-in-law who is said to have caused a serious traffic accident. An alleged police officer or public prosecutor also stated that the woman who caused the accident had to pay tens of thousands of euros to avoid going to jail.
A 66-year-old man from Karlsruhe became suspicious and called the police. Officials then caught a 24-year-old scammer, a police spokesman said.
The 66-year-old should go to Stuttgart for the handover. However, his daughter contacted him beforehand, after which it turned out that the story of the scammers was fabricated.
