Bavaria: Bavaria's SPD boss: No alternative to the second regular route

Munich (dpa / lby) - Bavaria's SPD leader Florian von Brunn sees no alternative to a second S-Bahn trunk line in Munich, despite the foreseeable increase in construction costs. "There will be another cost-benefit analysis, but I don't see any alternative to the second regular route at the moment," von Brunn told the newspapers of the Bayern media group (Saturday edition). However, the state government must do everything to ensure that it is "completed more cheaply and as quickly as possible". It is important to use "external expertise".

The Bavarian Ministry of Transport assumes that the costs for the construction of the second S-Bahn tube in Munich could increase from 3.85 to up to 7.2 billion euros. In addition, the opening of the central route through the city center could be delayed from 2028 to 2037.

The railway itself, on the other hand, has not yet published any new figures or details. Bahn boss Richard Lutz at the end of July said after a top meeting with Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) and Munich's Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD), among others, "that it will be more expensive and it will take longer".
