Bavaria: care fraud in 300 cases: suspended sentence for 50-year-olds

Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - Because of care fraud in around 300 cases, the district court in Nuremberg has sentenced a 50-year-old to a suspended sentence of one and a half years. The operator of a nursing service also had to pay a monetary requirement of 20,000 euros to two non-profit organizations, said a judicial spokeswoman on Tuesday. At the beginning of the trial, the defendant admitted that she had only pretended to look after several senior citizens for years and had collected money from health insurance companies and the city of Nuremberg for doing so. They received a commission for signing fictitious proofs of achievement.

According to the court, the damage from the 303 cases of fraud convicted between January 2014 and December 2017 amounts to more than 151,000 euros. In 2017 and 2018, the accused had already been in custody for more than nine months, which the court took into account, among other things, in the sentence, said the judicial spokeswoman.

The verdict is not yet legally binding. The case against her co-accused husband was dropped on the first day of the trial against a fine of 10,000 euros. Criminal orders for aiding and abetting fraud were issued against ten suspected bogus patients.
