Bavaria: Drunk on the ship: Captain and helmsman caught

Aschaffenburg (dpa / lby) - The captain and helmsman of a cargo ship were caught drunk on the Main in Lower Franconia for two days in a row. The water police found in the 65-year-old helmsman on Monday that he had more than one per mil alcohol in his blood, the 38-year-old captain had an even higher value of around 1.5 per mil, the police headquarters in Lower Franconia announced on Wednesday. The men were checked because the ship had attracted attention due to an unusual way of driving near Aschaffenburg.

According to the police, the captain and helmsman were drunk again during another check on Tuesday. This time even higher alcohol levels were found than the day before. The seafaring patents and permits of the two shipmen were secured.

According to the information, the cargo ship has been driverless since then and is located in Bayernhafen in Aschaffenburg. It should only resume travel when a new crew arrives.

The alcohol limits for shipping are the same as for road traffic.
