Bavaria: grandson trickster caught: Senior gave crucial tip

Munich (dpa / lby) - The police caught two suspected grandchildren tricksters. The 23 and 43-year-old men are said to have deprived several seniors in the Munich area of their money and valuables with shock calls in the past few months.

During the calls, the men posed as police officers, prosecutors or judges, the Munich police headquarters reported on Wednesday. They claimed that a close family member had caused a serious car accident and that bail was required to avoid pre-trial detention. Several seniors fell for the scam and gave the men money and jewelry worth several hundred thousand euros.

However, an 81-year-old from the Munich area recognized the attempted fraud and finally led the police to track down the suspects. The 43-year-old was reportedly arrested last Friday in Ettlingen in Baden-Württemberg.

The 23-year-old was on his way to France and was arrested on the same day near the German-French border.

The suspects are now in custody in Munich. The police assume that both are also responsible for shock calls in Baden-Württemberg.
