Bayern: Turpin whistles Bayern in Milan: man who showed Müller red

Munich (dpa / lby) - Clément Turpin is in charge of FC Bayern Munich's opening game in the Champions League on Wednesday at Inter Milan. The 40-year-old Frenchman is an internationally very experienced referee. Of his 44 games in Europe's premier football league, he has already led six with FC Bayern. Among the four wins and two draws for Munich are the two victories in 2019 at Tottenham Hotspur (7: 2) and in the round of 16 second leg last season against RB Salzburg (7: 1).

National player Thomas Müller has special memories of Turpin. The 32-year-old attacker saw the red card in December 2018 in Bayern's 3-3 group game at Ajax Amsterdam after an unintentional kick at head height against opponent Nicolás Tagliafico. In addition to a yellow-red card in Bordeaux in 2009, it was Müller's only dismissal in the premier class.
