Chamonix valley Thunderstorms: Trees and a rock block the Vallorcine road

On Sunday, June 5, severe storms caused numerous damages in Chamonix valley. Rain and hail caused the destruction of many trees and a rock at La Poya, on the RD 1506 (Vallorcine), during heavy hail. The Department teams recommend that traffic be avoided in this area as it is closed to all traffic. The road could be reopened at 8 p.m. Tests are being done to ensure that the ground is stable.

At 1:30 p.m. the Chamonix firefighters had already mobilized for a dozen interventions in the valley. Manholes in the town were overflowing. Four people were injured when a tree fell on their car in Fayet's thermal park. Floods of cellars can be found in Les Houches, and trees fall on roads in Servoz.

Two family members were hurt by hail in Montenvers. Since the Sallanches firefighters were less sought after, the storm was quite localized. Firefighters advise extreme caution on roads and forest trails where weak branches might still fall.
