North Rhine-Westphalia: Train attendants threatened with knives: Federal police intervene

Dortmund (dpa / lnw) - A federal police officer who was not on duty prevented a possible knife attack on a train attendant on a regional train towards Dortmund. According to a statement by the federal police on Sunday, a 37-year-old passenger pulled out a pocket knife after a dispute with the train attendant on Friday evening and approached him with it. The officer then identified himself as a federal police officer and loudly asked the man to drop the knife. When the passenger ignored the request, the officer used pepper spray and overpowered the 37-year-old.

The train attendant had previously spoken to the passenger because he was not wearing a respirator and had also put his shoes on the opposite bench. The passenger reacted unreasonably and aggressively. When the train attendant threatened the man with being excluded from continuing the journey, the threatening situation arose. The man, who came from Hagen and was known to the police, was taken to the station at Dortmund Central Station. A breath alcohol test showed a value of 1.7 per thousand.

The federal police initiated investigations into insults, threats and resistance to law enforcement officers against the 37-year-old, who was taken into custody by the Dortmund police.
