EU/Climate. Surprise surprise: MEPs approve a key text for reforming the carbon market

Wednesday's plenary session vote of MEPs against a key text regarding the reform of Europe's carbon market. It was rejected by the Greens as well as the left. This will allow for a renegotiation in committee parliamentary of this pillar in the EU climate plan.

This text, which allows for the expansion and trading of CO2 emission quotas but also for the elimination of free quotas to European industrialists in return for a carbon tax at EU's borders, was defeated at the general surprise of 340 votes against (264 for, 34 abstentions). The Green and Left MEPs criticized the EPP (right), and Renew (centrist, liberals) regarding the timetable and the goals.
