Saxony: Vodafone builds a competence center: 200 jobs

Dresden (dpa/sn) - The telecommunications service provider Vodafone is building a competence center for mobile communications-based innovations and applications in Dresden. Around 200 jobs are to be created, the first jobs have already been advertised, the company said on Wednesday. They are primarily looking for specialists in technical professions such as software architects or cloud engineers. In the Ostragehege near the trade fair, Vodafone wants to move into two buildings with a total area of around 2700 square meters - a renovated old building and a new building that should be ready in 2024. According to the information provided, the focus of the competence center is on technologies such as 5G and 6G and corresponding applications in the areas of digital health, networked mobility and industry.

In January 2021, Vodafone launched an international competition in which eight selected European cities could apply. In June last year, the decision was finally made in favor of the Saxon state capital. "In the Dresden Hub we are thinking about the future of digitization. This is where the next generation of mobile communications is being created with 6G," said Ralf Irmer, who is responsible for innovation at Vodafone.
