Hesse: Bottles thrown at moving cars: arrest

Bad Homburg (dpa/lhe) - The police arrested a 61-year-old man who is said to have thrown bottles at moving cars near Bad Homburg (Hochtaunuskreis) for months. He was caught red-handed on Friday, the police said on Wednesday. The man is said to have thrown and damaged objects at least 13 times since the end of August. According to the police, the damage to property in the known cases is in the five-digit range.

In the past few months, several drivers have reported at regular intervals that they have been hit by objects. According to the police, it was noticeable that all incidents happened early in the morning on the federal highway 456 between Wehrheim and Bad Homburg. Due to the regularity and the same location, the suspicion has been strengthened that a deliberate person is behind the incidents.

On Friday, investigators saw a driver throw a bottle at an oncoming car. The officers followed the driver to his place of work. During the interrogation, the 61-year-old confessed to the crimes he committed on the way to work. "The reason he gave was a personal anger that he had built up because of other road users who behaved recklessly," the police said in a statement.

The 61-year-old is now being investigated on suspicion of dangerous interference in road traffic and property damage.
