Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: thieves steal catalytic converters and more: damage 30,000 euros

Wöbbelin (dpa/mv) - Thieves with workshop experience caused damage of around 30,000 euros to a car dealer in Wöbbelin (Ludwigslust-Parchim). A police spokesman said on Wednesday that exhaust catalysts and other vehicle parts were dismantled and stolen from around 26 cars on the company premises during the night.

In more than 20 older vehicles alone, catalytic converters built into the exhaust system for exhaust gas purification were stolen. Wheels, steering wheels, navigation devices and other technical components also disappeared. The police expect that this is a targeted theft and that the catalytic converters will be used as scrap because of the precious metal they contain.

According to initial investigations, there are four perpetrators. Criminal police officers have secured traces at the scene of the crime and are investigating theft in a particularly serious case.
