Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The number of crimes registered by the police in Hesse increased again in 2022. A total of 368,579 offenses were counted, said Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU) on Wednesday in Wiesbaden at the presentation of the police crime statistics. The year before, the number had amounted to 336,030 crimes.
Overall, the crime figures for 2022 also reflected the end of the specific corona pandemic restrictions, the interior minister explained. "Unfortunately, when more people come together again, crime also increases."
The crime rate in Hesse in 2022, at 5,855 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants, increased in line with the registered offenses compared to the previous year (2021: 5,340), reported Beuth. This is a development that can be seen nationwide after the pandemic years. The risk of becoming a victim of crime in Hesse is still at a historic low in a long-term comparison.
