There is no sudden increase in the numbers, said Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU) of the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden. However, this is only a snapshot and could change at any time due to the situation on site. According to Rhein, Hesse took in around 80,000 war refugees from Ukraine in 2022.

The state government is in regular contact with the municipal leaders. The federal government's money for taking in and accommodating the refugees will be divided fairly and transparently, the prime minister assured.
At Easter there will be renewed negotiations with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) on the distribution of refugee costs. Until then, it will be seen whether the funds agreed so far are sufficient, said the head of government. However, the federal government is obliged to better protect the borders in order to ensure a more regulated immigration to Germany. "The federal government must act urgently here."
