Hesse: Girlfriend killed: Life imprisonment applied for

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - According to the public prosecutor's office, a 46-year-old man is to be imprisoned for life for killing his partner with 33 stab wounds. The prosecution pleaded insidious murder to the Frankfurt district court on Tuesday, while the defense attorneys called for a lower sentence for manslaughter. The jury will announce its verdict on February 24.

In a first trial, the 46-year-old had already been sentenced to twelve years in prison by the district court in December 2020 for manslaughter. He suddenly attacked and stabbed his 24-year-old partner in October 2019 in front of a supermarket in Frankfurt-Bornheim. Both had previously bought the crime tool in the market - but originally the man wanted to kill himself with it because he couldn't deal with the separation previously announced by the woman. The public prosecutor saw the perpetrator's sudden change of heart as an indication of the woman's "suspicion and defencelessness," which he deliberately exploited.

The Federal Court of Justice overturned the first judgment on appeal by the joint plaintiffs because the murder characteristics had not been adequately examined. At the time, the public prosecutor's office had also spoken out in favor of a conviction for manslaughter.
